Happy Turkey Day/Day of Double Standards

Thu Nov 24, 2005, 11:37 PM
Holy shit sandwiches what is DA coming to?

I read through a forum ([link]) and I saw some scattering comments that didn't make a lot of sense (but bear with me, it's way past midnight and I've had a long day without my music or sketchbook.) What I'm really tired of is staff spewing out BS about the DALit community feeling special and deserving special treatment. UM NOOOOO. I'm a writer myself, and I know writers don't deserve special attention/treatment or anything along those lines. But I really must say that so many writers are treated unfairly in a blanket remark as such.

Can you really call a badly written sprinkled with typos and mistakes plot what plot story about Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy having hot sweaty underaged boysex in Snape's Dungeon written solely because the deviant is a horny 14 year old girl art?

Who is to say what is badly written? I used to be young and naiive, and I thought my writing like that was pretty damn good, but I learned it was pretty bad eventually. So maybe she's starting out? I don't mean to sound like a hippy on weed here, but most everything is art. My 3 year old cousin creates art when she tries to color inside the lines, but misses, right? She's just unlearned, doesn't have the control over her hands like us big people do. I've seen stories like that hot sweaty Malfoy/Potter sex example, and it's art too.

Besides I thought a good writer could write about anything and still have it be good?

True, but again, who's to say what is and isn't good? Who's the Judge Dread of good literature? Some people like Poe, others don't because their opinions on "good" differ. Even if something is sprinkled with typos, spelling/grammatical errors, and is about hot sweaty underage boy!sex, it can still be good to some and terrible to others. We're not all prima donnas.

I'm really sleepy. I just noticed a chocolate kiss on my keyboard. I should eat it. 311 plays in the background.

(For a full account, see (([link]))/ I will only paste things that really stand out to me.)

Double Standards Galore:
PVA closed this thread: [link]
Reason given: insulting other users in the forums or anywhere, creatively or not, is prohibited.
The same PVA, mirrorkills, subsequently goes into another already-locked thread ( [link] ) and says this to a former Lit GD: Wow, you mean you guys actually called that monitoring? I think what you're refering to as monitoring is called the buddy system. As in if it's a buddy you look the other way.

A former Lit GD posted this in a journal: [link]
It's an intricate system of douchebags with personal grudges. Actually, it's just two douchebags with personal grudges carrying out a vendetta green-lighted by another douchebag while a fourth douchebag pretends it isn't happening. There is no secret technology, just good old-fashioned douchebaggery. The D no longer stands for "deviant." Welcome to douchebagART.

Okay, that's not very nice. But he didn't name anyone specific and his comment was in a journal, just like subversive-imaginati's commentary. However, the former Lit GD was banned for his comment by Realitysquared. Which way is it? Either comments in journals that don't name anyone are allowed or they aren't. Or can only PVA's get away with it?

Okay, so this community sucks ass. Smelly hobo ass. Does that mean we should all hastily pack our bags and portfolios and leave? Hell no. It means we need to be more civil and realize that not everyone outside our own little clique is an idiot, whore, prima donna, attention-seeking whore, or looks down their nose at everyone else.
Subversive-imaginati has posted a copious amount of journals that are simply rants about how pissed off she is at the DALit section of the community and subjects of the like, also of how annoyed she is of getting notes that pretty much "make her out to be some unfair bitch, and the user trying to get their way by bullying her into it." BULLSHIT. Cough cough, bullshit, cough, hack. Quite a few of her journals give the impression that she is akin to some pitiful rape victim that stays home and takes showers eighteen times a day. I'm not trying to say that she's being totally unreasonable here, I do understand that she goes through a shitload of abuse and handles far too many rude and crude comments and notes. I just mean to say that the air of "near everyone hates me and gangs up on me" gets a little old, and personally, I started to think about it. Can someone really be hated so much that everything they receive is abuse and pure hatred? And if so, they had to do something, say something, or act a way that pissed people off enough to deserve it, right?
Staff and regular members of deviantART are not treated fairly in any respect. I have to warn you, [link] is a long piece, but it's definitely worth reading. I probably won't use my journal often, but it is a PRIVATE journal. What I say in this thing is NOT a reflection of deviantART, the staff, or any other individual that may hold an account here. I'll probably get reported for this journal entry or some staff member will notice it and ban me, but still, come on. This stuff can't be ignored!

I'm also not saying I love erotic art/poetry/prose and am against censorship, but still... who is to say what we can and can not say? A group of people with special characters preceeding their usernames?
